2020 Hindsight

Kalibak was wondering why he hasn't had much heroclix to talk about lately. How could that be? How many Apokolips figures have come out in the last three years? Certainly something interesting has been released... Let’s see…
(clicking over to HCRealms...open Units up…)

FOUR! %$&*? Only FOUR? That is nearly one figure per year!
Since 2017's HARLEY QUINN AND THE GOTHAM GIRLS, there have been four figures with the Apokolips keyword, and they aren’t great.

  • One is a con exclusive of a Kingdom Come alt future Orion..blech
  • The other three are super rares, two are remakes in animated style, and then a Lex Luthor from Rebirth...blech

One can only hope they are starving the audience to lean in heavy on a set with the 4th World as the major theme. Kalibak out.

The Female Furies

If you had told Kalibak the Cruel that one day WizKids would  release a Heroclix set with thirteen Apokolips keyworded figs, he would choke the life out of a Hunger Dog with joy. The closest Kalibak ever got to an Apokolips set was SUPERMAN AND THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES about four years ago, which was alright, but it didn't light Kalibak's piss on fire.

What really makes this Heroclix set great, is NOT that it is named after girl-clown, but it has thirteen Apokolips figures, most of which have never been clixed in the fifteen years Kalibak has been stealing boosters! Kalibak doubts we will see its like again!  >:-(

This set had a large number of the Female Furies in it. The Furies are sometime friends, and sometime foes of the New Gods, particularly Mister Miracle. He married one of them so he should have seen that coming. Really, that's on him. Although the figure scale is off from figure to figure, and the paint looks to be applied with a severed ear, the poses of the Furies are very well done. WizKids, you done "ok" by Kalibak this time.

Steppenwolf

Kalibak here. Sad day for classic Apocalypse. It looks like we are finally getting a Steppenwolf clix but from the looks of this grainy, low-res, earth image on the left, it is not the classic Kirby villain, but instead we are getting this strange goober. He looks ridiculous. >:-(

Parademons! Part 2: Seeing Red

Early in the 1980s, DC and Kenner paid Jack Kirby to redesign some of his classic Fourth World villains for the acclaimed comic/toy line, Super Powers. Kailbak's good friends, the parademons, were arguably the most revised characters to appear, changing from a green/yellow color scheme to a shocking orange/red appearance, and instead of human form, they become much more demonic. This new look resonated with fans and even today the nostalgia for these awesome toys is so strong, the red parademon still appears in artwork and in toy form; but never in Heroclix. Kalibak still scratching his head and asking "Why?"

Red parademons from Capstone’s wonderful DC Super-Pets Character Encyclopedia
and the red parademon from Wave 8 of the DC Universe Classics line.

Will we ever see this classic variant of the parademon in Heroclix? As the fourth unique Heroclix parademon sculpt is set to appears in stores soon, it seems eventually someone at WizKids will realize its time to mix it up and give this red parademon his due.

In the meantime, the look of the new 52 parademons is a pleasing mix of the classic comic warriors and Super Power demons. This new 52 style parademon is the model for the upcoming Heroclix figure and a creative fan could apply a little paint and have a easy mod of the red parademon if so inclined. Me tell you that Kailbak is going to be having a few Hunger Dogs painting day and night until he has his own personal red army of doom!

Apokolips Heroclix Wish List - Part 3

Glorious Godfrey

Unlike most of this wish list me, Kalibak, think finest moment of Godfrey's career actually not from original run of Kirby's book, but from the 1986 "Legends" comic. Godfrey uses his powers of persuasion to not only turn Earthlings against their heroes, but convinces them to climb into robotic war dogs from Apokolips and fight the heroes themselves. Epic. Kalibak loves war dogs.

On the game side of this, although some clixs of Darkseid have a couple slots of Mind Control, this agent of Apoklips would be the master of MC. Throw in a few clicks of outwit and you have a great support piece for your Apokolips army.

Apokolips Heroclix Wish List - Part 2

Steppenwolf

I love my great uncle, Steppenwolf. Imagine the clix this murdered could make! He is the immortal leader of Darksied's forces, and a master of weapons, and he rides around on a giant war dog! Sure he died once or twice, but what comic character worth anything hasn't?

Apokolips Heroclix Wish List - Part 1

Kalibak going to talk about all his best friends back home who just haven't made it into Heroclix in the twelve years the game has been in existence. Twelve years is a long time on Apokolips! Most Hunger Dogs dead by age twelve. Me like this bug man lots.

Mantis

Not much I can say that this article on HCRealms by Ignatz_Mouse doesn't. This should happen!
Parademons!
On Earth, January 14th, 2014 Heroclix sees a new set released with DC HeroClix: Justice League – Trinity War. With the gravity feed we are going to see Parademons! At first Kalibak no think it is new sculpt but a reuse of the sculpt made for the new Darksied figure from the JL board game (inset). But not true. On closer inspection it is new sculpt!

Apokolips not listed as subtheme though, Nor is "Darkseid's Elite" or "Female Furies". Really would like more Fourth World figures. Sigh. Kalibak going back to modding his Funky Flashman figure now.

Finally! (I hope)

It appears that there will be a new Kalibak heroclix figure in the upcoming set, Superman and the Legion of Superheroes. I could not be more excited! So they sculpted me in a classic Kirby costume so here's hoping I get the proper keywords too.

A Kailbak card with the correct keywords

If you want to have the Apokolips thugs deal some theme team damage, perhaps you can fool your opponents with this handy Kailbak card, which includes the Apokolips keyword. This would never work at my venue but don't let that stop you from trying at yours.

I still have no leads on where to direct my keyword pleas for Kalibak. If you are reading this and can direct me to any WizKids employee, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance for any possible help you can provide.

CuriousLurker's Excellent HeroClix Apokolips Map

CuriousLurker's Excellent HeroClix Apokolips Map

Apokolips NOW! Store is open for business

Yes, you agree that HeroClix Kailbak deserved the Apokolips keyword, but how do you let others know? How can you help the struggle to make him part of the Apokolips theme team?
Here is the solution! Show your support and get a overpriced T-shirt too! Click on the link below.

All proceeds go to adding the Apokolips keyword to HeroClix Kalibak, Collateral Damage #095.

Kalibak needs the Apokolips keyword

Poor Kalibak the Cruel, Collateral Damage #095 is missing his most important keyword - Apokolips. What's that you say? This means nothing to you? Well then you might not be a Heroclix player, and you are most certainly not one interested in playing Theme Teams in the HeroClix game. Just to let you know where I am coming from, I think Theme Teams rules are the coolest addition to the HeroClix game since it was invented.

Keywords let you assemble a collection of comic book characters around a common theme so while playing the game you gain certain bonuses. This is done to offset the lamentable fact that Theme Teams are  perhaps the weakest forces you can construct for the game. It is a shame that more of Jack Kirby's wonderful Fourth World villains are not in the game already, but to have one of the few that is created not play thematically with the rest is really a missed opportunity we would like to see righted.

Who can we appeal to to get the Apokolips keyword added to Kalibak? Is there even such a person? Someone must be in charge of such things and I would like to contact them. I am prepared to write emails, send snail mail letters, and start a petition, bribe them with baked goods, or whatever, to right this wrong.

I plan to get a letter from Seth Johnson that said "Hey, when I made Collateral Damage Kalibak, if there had been keywords back then, Kalibak certainly would have gotten the Apokolips keyword. He's the freaking son of Darkseid."

It's just a stupid oversight really. I haven't meet anyone who doesn't think he deserves the keyword. I really like to play theme teams and since the Apokolips theme team is already pretty slim for team selection, every little bit helps.

Kalibak the Cruel thanks you for your time.
